Korean giant Samsung gave us a first glimpse of its foldable phone, reportedly called the Galaxy F during its annual developers conference. The handset will feature two displays – a main 7.4-inch foldable display and 4.6-inch display on the cover that’ll stay active even when the device is folded.
During the conference, Samsung’s President Koh Dong-jin also announced that the company will launch the handset in the first half of 2019. Now, a new report from South Korean publication Yonhap News Agency has seemingly revealed a release date and price for Samsung’s foldable phone.
According to the report, the Galaxy S10 flagship will be unveiled in February 2019, most likely at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The report further notes that Samsung will launch a 5G version of the Galxy S10 about a month later, during the launch event of the Galaxy F foldable phone.
So far, not much is known about Samsung’s foldable smartphone. A Galaxy F prototype was teased during Samsung’s annual develpers conference. According to the demo, the handset will sport a tablet-like form factor with a main 7.4-inch foldable display which closes like a book transforming into a smaller, candybar form factor with a 4.6-inch cover display that remans active when the device is folded.
The Galaxy F will also be equipped an app ‘continuity’ feature to ensure that the apps running on the secondry cover display will be available on the main foldable display as well when opened.
In addition, the foldable smartphone will also ship with Samsung’s new user interface dubbed as One UI. The new UI sports rounded icons as well as a design language which Samsung suggests allows Android users to focus on “what really matters.”
Coming back to the report, the South Korean publication also suggests that the Galaxy F will cost a whopping $1770. The report also notes that Samsung hasn’t arrived at a final price yet, though the company intends to ship one million units of the Galaxy F for the first batch of orders.
Finally, Yonhap News also notes that Samsung will launch a 5G version of the Galaxy S10 alongside the upcoming foldable phone. The Galaxy F, however, won’t come with 5G capabilties, added the report.
