Something to look forward to for fans of Half-Life, as Valve has confirmed that a new VR title for the game is on its way. Dubbed as Half-Life: Alyx, the upcoming VR title will feature Half-Life 2 co-star Alyx Vance.
The announcement was on the @valvesoftware Twitter account. The tweet confirms that the game’s full reveal will be held this Thursday at 10 am Pacific Time. Meanwhile, key sources suggest that Half-Life: Alyx will be showcased during the game awards on December 12, while it’s slated for a release in March 2020. It will be the first official Half-Life game since the release of Half-Life 2, which was released 12 years ago in 2007.
All Half-Life titles are considered one of the most influential and critically acclaimed PC games ever made. That said, Valve never finished any of the game’s trilogies. After the release of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Valve launched Half-Life Episode 1 and Half-Life Episode 2, though never came out with Episode 3. Hence, a return to the franchise is well overdue.
Not much is know about the game so far, but reports suggest that Half-Life 2: Alyx won’t be a Half-Life 2 sequel. Instead, the game’s storyline will revolve around the period in between the first two Half-Life games, years before the events of Half-Life 2 and before Gordon Freeman’s return to the franchise. Besides, leaks also suggest that it will be a single-player, story-driven experience with 12-16 hours of gameplay, taking place in between the original Half-Life game and Half-Life 2. That said, it’s pretty clear from the title that gamers would play as Alex Vance.
