  • Apple’s next iPhone will look much like the iPhone Xs, says analyst

Apple’s next iPhone will look much like the iPhone Xs, says analyst

It appears we can’t expect the next iPhone range to look much different from the current lineup.  As according to Nomuar analyst Anna Lee, Apple’s 2019-iPhone lineup won’t be much of a change from the current lineup. Now, this essentially implies that the next iPhone’s design will remain largely similar to the current iPhone XS.

“We think the three new iPhones in 2H19F will likely have the same form factors (body size and displays) as the 2H18 iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, with some added AR [augmented reality]-related features,” said the analyst.

Apple is widely expected to launch three iPhone models next year as well, a 5.8-inch model, a plus sized Max model, along with a 6.1-inch LCD model.

“We think 2019 could be the last year the iPhone uses the iPhone X design architecture, in preparation for initial hardware specs for 5G (sub-6GHz) and AR (augmented reality), before greater architecture upgrades in 2020F for 5G and a more comprehensive AR system,”, the analyst further added.

Besides, the analyst also notes there’s a good chance iPhone sales would shrink even further during the next fiscal year. The analyst estimates 204 million iPhone units sales is fiscal year 2019, while it’s expected to drop in fiscal year 2020 to 200 million units.

Apple has already cut production orders for this year’s iPhone lineup. Reports indicate that iPhone XR orders have been massively reduced, by upto 30 percent.  Although, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have not witnessed such reduced orders.

Apple’s decision to reduce production orders comes as a result of lower than anticipated demand for new iPhone models as well as overall shrinking of the smartphone-market. Reports further cite that weak demand in China is another reason for cutting down production of newly launched iPhone models.

  • Samsung Galaxy S10 benchmarks leaked

    Samsung Galaxy S10 benchmarks leaked

Samsung is expected to announce its Galaxy S10 flagship series in February. We’ve already come across a barrage of leaks about the upcoming flagship in the second half of 2018. The upcoming Galaxy S10 will likely have two variants when it comes to processors, an Exynos 9820 model and a Snapdragon 855 variant. Qualcomm recently unveiled its next gen flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 855, and the Galaxy S10 with this processor will be launched in the United States.

Today, an Antutu benchmark listing has revealed scores of both processors for the Galaxy S10. As expected, one of them is faster than the other, and it happens to be Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor. Now, this could be because Qualcomm’s latest chip is built using a 7nm process, while the new Exynos chip is built on an 8nm process.

Going by the Antutu listing, the Galaxy S10 model with Snapdragon 855 scored 343051, while the one with Exynos 9820 pulled off a score of 325067. With that said, both these scores are significantly higher than last year’s Snapdragon 845 which scored 290455 in the same test. However, readers are reminded that these are preliminary tests, and results may get better as we near the Galaxy S10’s official release.

  • Leak shows Samsung’s first smartphone with a notch

Leak shows Samsung’s first smartphone with a notch

While Samsung promised not to offer a notch on its smartphones, well, beaucse, everyone does it. However, it appears the South Korean giant is prepping its first phone with a notch. According to a report by 91mobiles, the company’s first phone with a notch is purportedly called the Galaxy M20.

That said, the leak suggests the handset will a have a rather tiny notch, something similar to a tear-drop styled notch as oppsed to the rather chunky notch found on the iPhone X or Google Pixel 3 XL.

So what is Samsung’s reason to add a notch? The report suggests the company is trying to make the notch as tiny as possible on the Galaxy M20. The notch would essentially hide the front-facing camera. Besides, it would allow the company to reduce the handset’s top and bottom bezels, essentially giving users more screen real estate to fiddle with.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy M20 is rumored to feature a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to get powered by Exynos 7 octa-core processor bundled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage.

More details about the Galaxy M20 are expected to surface in the coming weeks as we near its official release. Key sources indicate that the handset is likley to release early next year, possibly a month before Samsung unveils the Galaxy S10 series.

Samsung is apparently trying its hand at all kinds of design elements for its upcoming handsets. The Korean giant also plans to release the Galaxy F foldable phone next year, alongside a 5G variant of its upcoming flagship.

Today, we have yet another leak of the upcoming flagship, allegedly revealing the handset in all its glory. The reason being that Samsung has opted for an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on its next flagship. Besides, we can also see a triple camera setup on the handset’s rear, which falls in line with earlier leaks.

On the front, the video shows the Galaxy S10 Plus with dual selfie shooters housed within a camera cutout, instead of the notch. However, we can see significant top and bottom bezels which suggests the handset shown in the video is a clone.  Nonetheless, it still gives us a goo idea about what to expect from the upcoming flagship. Past leaks have indicated that the Galaxy S10 series will have incredibly thin or nearly invisible bezels around the display.

At the bottom, we can see a speaker grille, USB Type-C port, as well as a 3.5mm jack. Besides, we can see power and volume rockers on the right, and the Bixby button on the left.

Finally, the report also mentions that Samsung could deploy a total of six different cameras on this top-seceret model of the Galaxy S10. It could have four cameras on the back and two on the front, according to the report. Citing a source, the report suggests these cameras should offer ‘richer photos and better spatial perception’.

  • Google Pixel 3 XL running Android Q allegedly spotted on Geekbench

Google Pixel 3 XL running Android Q allegedly spotted on Geekbench

One of the main reasons users prefer Pixel-branded handsets is because they receive timley Android updates and security patches. The Google Pixel 3 range shipped with the latest Android 9 Pie. And now, it appears Google has already started testig the next version of Android on the Pixel 3 XL.

A Geekbench listing has allegedly been spotted which shows the Pixel 3 XL running Android Q. This, for obvious reasons, comes as a surprise given the fact that Google will reveal details about Android Q next year. Though, the listing seemingly suggests that Google has already started testing the next version of Android OS on the Pixel 3 XL. As per the listing, the Pixel 3 XL running Android Q pulled off single and multi core scores of 2404 amd 8510 respectively.

    android q

Android Q is the next version of Android that will arrive on supported Pixel-branded handsets in 2019, followed by smartphones from other manufacturers. Therefore, it’s rather suprising to see a listing with Google Pixel 3 XL running the forthcoming version of Android.

With that being said, Google also promised that it’ll offer comaptible smartphones an early chance to test Android Q. Hence, it’s possible that some testers might have been given early access to test Android Q build for the Pixel 3 XL.

That said, there’s also a possibilty that the listing is fake given that it has become rather easy to tweak Geekbench listings. Editing the build.prop with a different version of Android is one of the most common methods to tweak Geekbench listings. For now, nothing can be authecticated or verified, therefore, readers are advised to take this leak with a huge grain of salt.

According to a Geekbnech listing, the LG V40 ThinQ may soon receive the new Android 9 Pie update. The listing revealed a 6GB RAM variant of the flagship running benchmarks with a test build of Android 9 Pie.

Now, this essentially implies that LG is testing its latest flagship for the latest Android 9 Pie update. Though given LG’s lacklustre track record when its comes to providing timely Android updates, one can’t say the update will arrive soon enough on the LG V40 ThinQ. For now, LG’s only smartphone that has been updated to Android 9 Pie is the LG G7.
